Spring Cleaning for the Soul

While any time is a good time to clean or refresh the soul, Spring often gives us the energy to take on new things. It is a natural time for us to consider our mental well-being, reconnect to things that support the life we want to live, and let go of things that no longer serve us. For example, you may begin by reflecting on:

  • Where have I been?

  • Where am I now?

  • Where do I want to go?

Using temperature as the measure of a season, Spring is a brief period in Arizona. That’s why my Spring cleaning began in February. Over the past few months, I have cleaned up many things that no longer serve me. For example, I gave away clothes, decluttered my home, and changed how I spent my time. I also reevaluated the thoughts that limit my enjoyment of life and examined my role in building and strengthening relationships.

“Be the captain of your soul.”

~ Nelson Mandela

I love this quote by Nelson Mandela. It is a powerful metaphor for accepting control over our happiness and purpose, instead of believing we are a piece of driftwood floating down the stream of life with no control over our lives. Once we accept that we are the captain of our soul, we are ready to become the architect of our lives.

Many of you may also need to make changes in your life. Over the next few weeks, we will explore various areas for you to consider for your Spring clean. These topics will include:

  • How to Get Started

  • Declutter Your Physical Space

  • Tackling Your Digital World
